Its been a while since my last post, mostly because I’ve not really had any news of note to share with you all.
Late last year I entered the landscape category of the Scottish Nature Photography Awards 2011 competition and found out a couple of weeks ago that I had made it through to the shortlist. The winners have been announced today and unfortunately I was not placed in the final three places of the Landscape category. However, all short listed photos in the competition get published in the Portfolio Yearbook 2011. I’m pleased with this, the standard of entries to the competition is very good and to get through to the shortlist was great. Congratulations to the winners in all of the categories.
I will post an update later on regarding the Portfolio Book 2011 when I know more about it. The image that was shortlisted is Bass Rock Dusk which some of you may have already seen. It was taken at Seacliffe near North Berwick, East Lothian with my Mamiya 645 Camera on Fuji Velvia 50 film.

I am pleased to tell you that I will be visiting St Kilda in May along with my good friend and photographer Bruce Percy. St Kilda is looked after by National Trust for Scotland and Scottish National Heritage and is located about 45 miles west of Lewis. We have been given permission to camp there and all things being well we shall be camping there for a week. Due to the nature of the weather it is possible that our trip may end up being shorter or longer than planned – plenty of supplies will be required on the off chance we end up out there for two weeks!
I am planning on taking both my Mamiya 645 film camera and my Canon digital system with me and with a bit of luck I will come away with some nice images of an island that not many people get to stay on. It would be nice to try out one of the new Canon EOS 5D MkIII cameras on this trip – if anyone has contacts in Canon that could arrange this then that would be great!….I wish 😉
I am really excited about this trip and really hope that the weather doesn’t put a spanner in the works for us. The boat trip takes between 3 and 4 hours each way and I’ll be making sure I take anti sea sickness tablets before we go!
This trip may help kick start a photo project that I had thought about doing some time ago about the Scottish coastline.
